Hilary J. Sumner, Registered Patent Attorney, Sumner IP Law PLLC

Hilary Sumner is a registered patent attorney and sole practitioner based in Lebanon County. Before pursuing a career in the law, she worked as a quality engineer and regulatory compliance officer for several large medical device manufacturers. Hilary holds B.S. degrees in mechanical and materials engineering from the University of Connecticut and returned to UConn for law school, graduating with a newfound appreciation for words like “whereas” and “hereinafter.”

Hilary started her own business developing custom databases for small companies while pursuing her J.D. This experience gave her an early appreciation for building a business from scratch and protecting intellectual property from competitors. Her winding professional path has taught her that careers rarely unfold as planned and that some of the most rewarding opportunities come from a willingness to change direction. When she is not practicing law, Hilary enjoys spending time with her family and playing the bagpipes poorly.
