Mica Pitcher, Ph.D., Research Chemist, PPG

Mica Pitcher is a Research Chemist working at PPG’s global research and development center in Allison Park, Pennsylvania. She got her Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from The State University of New York at Geneseo and went on to obtain her PhD in Chemistry at Penn State in University Park. In graduate school, she worked on the synthesis and characterization of soft materials, particularly plant-based cellulose nanocrystals, and engineered them for applications in sustainable applications, such as the adsorption of harsh organic contaminants from water. In her role at PPG, she focuses on the thermal and mechanical characterization of paint coatings and works to strategically develop and understand structure-property-performance relationships. Mica mentored several undergraduate women in her lab at Penn State and is a part of the Women’s Leadership Network at PPG! She loves her three cats, crocheting, listening to music, and making art!
