STEM-UP Network and PAS (Pennsylvania Academy of Science) have announced a new collaboration designed to strengthen pathways for women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). The partnership will coordinate both organizations’ programs and outreach to better serve college and university students, recent graduates, young professionals, and faculty in STEM disciplines.
“STEM-UP Network is excited to have PAS as a strategic partner in expanding our reach and impact to the next generation of women in STEM across Pennsylvania, by proactively connecting them to our community, programs, and resources. This collaboration perfectly aligns PAS’s mission to promote scientific research and discipline skills with our efforts to support the retention and advancement of women in STEM,” said Dr. Bilita Mattes, Executive Director, STEM-UP Network.
The joint effort will create opportunities for participants to access resources and strategies, and professional connections that support women’s retention and advancement in STEM fields. By aligning their missions, STEM-UP Network and Pennsylvania Academy of Science will expand professional development offerings and foster inclusive networks to address the gender talent gap that persists across the STEM workforce.
Through this collaboration, the two organizations will integrate their existing initiatives to empower emerging women professionals as they transition into and advance within STEM careers. This series of programs and events focuses on building leadership skills, strengthening resilience, and cultivating mentorship and community among participants.
Together, STEM-UP Network and Pennsylvania Academy of Science will:
• Expand access to STEM programming and mentorship for students and professionals in Pennsylvania and beyond;
• Create forums for professional dialogue and skill development at all academic and career stages;
• Provide access to a shared network of mentors, speakers, and institutional partners; and
• Support initiatives that prepare and retain women in STEM leadership roles.
“The Pennsylvania Academy of Science is proud to collaborate with the STEM-UP Network to advance opportunities for women in STEM across Pennsylvania. PAS has a more than century-long tradition of supporting research and professional development for students and faculty in the Keystone State. This partnership aligns with our mission by connecting emerging scientists with mentors, resources, and a network dedicated to equity and success in the sciences,” said Dr. Lara Goudsouzian, Affiliate Chair of the Pennsylvania Academy of Science.
This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing equity and opportunity in STEM by leveraging each organization’s strengths, networks, and expertise.
